On Sat 24th Sep, Fazakerley 9, in conjunction with the Hillsborough Justice Campaign and Sound City presents ‘Don’t Buy The Sun! A Charity Concert in memory of James McVey’.
The event for James and the charity formed in his memory will be combined with a previously scheduled concert against The Sun newspaper organised by Farm front man Peter Hooton.
Fazakerley 9’s Jamie McVey said, “The concert will be a happy occasion to celebrate James’s life and the 96 who died at Hillsborough. When James went the match he would always go to the Hillsborough flame and pause. He always wore Don’t Buy The Sun stickers and a badge supporting the justice campaign. He was very passionate about it.”
The concert’s proceeds will go to Fazakerley 9.
The charity aims to increase the local community’s access to sports and leisure and in achieving its goals, one such project is to spruce up and install sports facilities and outdoor lighting at Hawksmoor Park in Liverpool. James regularly played football at Hawksmoor as a youngster but the park has become somewhat neglected in recent times.
By breathing a new lease of life into the park, the local community will be able to make better use of the facilities and local children will have better access to community based sports activities.
Dave Pichilingi, from Liverpool Sound City, who is supporting the event, said: “We have some big local names we are talking to. It promises to be a great event.”
Full details of the line up will be announced shortly. The concert takes place at the Liverpool Olympia, West Derby Road Liverpool L13 on Sat 24th Sep 2011, 6:00pm – 11:00pm.
Tickets are on sale from the Liverpool Olympia at £15.
